Tulsi: An Alternative to Regular Basil

Tulsi, which is also known as holy basil, is in the mint family and grows in largely tropical areas. It’s widely seen in India and has been growing there for over three thousand years. It is known to enhance well-being and longevity (Krans and Gotter, 2017) Holy basil is helpful in treating many different conditions such as: the common cold, bronchitis, fever, digestive issues, and ulcers. The most significant research concludes however, that tulsi is beneficial in relieving stress and promotes relaxation. A few scientific studies have discovered that supplementing with holy basil extracts reduces hormone levels, corticosterone specifically (Medicine Hunter, 2012).

Nutritionally, tulsi contains vitamin A and C, calcium, zinc, iron, and chlorophyll. Studies have also shown decreased stress, sexual issues, sleep issues, forgetfulness, and exhaustion in those that supplemented with holy basil. (Krans and Gotter, 2017) It’s also beneficial in treating infection and treating wounds. Tulsi – Holy Basil by Banyan Botanicals is a product we carry at Acupuncture Atlanta. In addition to the benefits mentioned above, this product may be useful in supporting immunity, stress response, and in supporting the body’s natural detoxification process.
