The Effects of Seaweed on Diabetes, Hypertension and Cholesterol

The results of the study showed that the hyper-nori and hyper-konbu groups’ livers were heavier than groups that did not receive seaweed in their diets. Additionally, plasma cholesterol experienced a statistically significant increase in groups who were fed diets with added cholesterol, and a significant decrease in groups that were fed diets with seaweed. The authors found that the hyper-nori group experienced the least hypocholesterolaemic effects. This may be a result of the fact that the nori diet contained more soluble fiber than the konbu and control diets (Bocanegra et al., 700).
